Other Local Producers
These are some of the other farms in Central Iowa where we buy our food and who are also dedicated to selling quality products. Please click on their names to be sent to their websites, the pages will open in a new window. We highly recommend them, please tell them we sent you!
Blue Gate Farm is a vegetable and CSA grower in Chariton, IA (south of Pella) who grow a wide variety of Naturally Grown products including vegetables, alfalfa, eggs, and honey. They are also part of the Farm Crawl in October.
Lois Reichert has a goat micro dairy and makes fantastic cheese out of Knoxville, IA (south of Pella). Her roasted red pepper chevre is absolutely to die for! (Especially with home-made crackers....) Reichert's Dairy Air is also part of the Farm Crawl.
Paul's Grains is a multi-generational farm south of Marshalltown, IA (north of Pella) that has been chemical-free since 1964 and are truly pioneers in the local food movement. They make cereals and flours, and also serve as a source for grains and snacks that cannot be grown in Iowa. We eat 7-grain pancakes made from their flour every morning!
Picket Fence is a Jersey cow dairy in Woodward, IA (northwest of Des Moines) that makes milk, ice cream, butter, and many other things. They also have a truly lovely "grocery store" that sources many other local products from farms all over Iowa (and slightly beyond for more exotic items like buffalo) as well as many local wines.
Galen raises grass-fed beef and pastured poultry near Kalona, IA. He is a previous apprentice of Joel Salatin, and is a great deal of help to us as we start our own business.
